Not long ago, Internet marketing consisted of having a website and/or a banner ad on other websites. Today, Internet marketing has drastically broadened and is an important part of nearly every company’s marketing strategy. For some companies, it is the only form of marketing practiced.

Internet marketing is also referred to as: i-Marketing, web marketing, online marketing, or e-Marketing, is the marketing of products or services over the Internet (this includes: website, search engine marketing, email, banner, online press releases, blog, article marketing, and social media). The main objective of internet marketing is to communicate a company message, conduct research, or to sell goods/services.

Internet marketing is typically the most cost effective way to market a company’s services. The downside to internet marketing is primarily the limitations it places upon the buyer. If a company is marketing tangible goods the buyer is unable to use their natural reaction, which is to engage their senses in the decision making process of a purchase. They are unable to touch, smell, taste, or “try on” the goods before making a purchase. This could limit the prospect customer pool for a company. This limitation is best remedied by having a clear and easily understandable return policy.

There are over 1 billion internet users in the world. Of those 1 billion people, 85% make online purchases. Internet marketing does not have to be complex, difficult, or demanding of your time and effort. I speak from my own personal experience that is it possible to have a successful internet marketing campaigns that do not take much effort.

We know social media is “big” and growing daily, but what does that mean in terms of people, potential customers?  My new program My Time to Market has been designed to walk you through setting up the social media aspect of internet marketing and writing a well thought out strategy.

You deserve to be in front of those 1 billion internet users. Now it is possible easier and faster than ever, with My Time to Market. Be sure to visit My Time to Market to find out more.

  1. Monyelle,

Marketing online does have a few disadvantages as you’ve mentioned here, but I think the pros, for most businesses, way outweigh the cons. Even looking at companies like Zappos who sell shoes, some of the hardest products to purchase without trying them on, have overcome the challenges of the internet. I agree that having a great return policy is a huge must. Taking away the risk for the customer will help them to be more comfortable in their online shopping.

    Great post! Heather

  2. Hi Monyelle,

thanks for your overview about internet marketing. I agree with Heather that the pros outweigh the cons. Sometimes it’s not about internet marketing but about marketing on the internet. Some online businesses couldn’t be done offline. Most offline businesses don’t need to be done online, theoretically. But they have to go online in order to be competitive.

    Take care
